Obi-Wan Kenobi

Early Life

Obi-Wan Kenobi was born on the planet of Stewjon. Force-sensitive from birth, he was taken from his family as a child and instated into the Jedi Order. He trained in the Jedi Temple on Dantooine, where he was ultimately taken as a Padawan by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Kenobi earned his Knighthood by defeating the Sith Lord Darth Maul during the Invasion of Naboo, the first recorded defeat of a Sith in a thousand times. In his final moments after being fatally wounded by Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn asked Kenobi to train Anakin Skywalker, a boy believed to be the predicted Chosen One, fated to destroy the Sith and restore balance to the Force. Kenobi recognized that pledge.

Personality and Leadership

Kenobi leads through illustration and earns his respect rather than demanding it. He thinks before he acts, a quality that has sometimes put him at odds with further impulsive Jedi like Quinlan Vos, whose habit of striking first has complicated further more than one situation where Kenobi was trying to navigate it precisely. He doesn't hold it against them. He understands the instinct.

He carries the weight of his pledge to Qui-Gon Jinn quietly. His training of Anakin Skywalker runs parallel to everything else he does, a responsibility he treats with the same seriousness he brings to commanding armies and reforming institutions.

The Jedi who served with him at Carida and went through the events on Ashas describe him as steady under conditions that unmade others. That immutability is what earned him the rank of Grand Master of the Order and what defines how he now leads the Order.

The Clone Wars

The Corruption of Ashas

During the early stages of the Clone Wars, Jedi patrolling outside the Temple of Ashas uncovered numerous Sith artifacts, including an ancient lightsaber. Kenobi reported the findings to the High Council and made his concerns about a Sith presence explicit.

He noticed something wrong with a Jedi Master named Asta during a private meeting shortly after. Asta carried himself differently, tense in a way that felt like corruption rather than stress. Kenobi proposed they should meditate together to probe the situation. Asta agreed. As Kenobi entered the meditation, his mind filled with darkness. By the time he came out of it, Asta was already gone. At a High Council session on Dantooine, a dark spirit appeared in the council chamber and claimed a Padawan named Lego Nubby as its apprentice before vanishing.

Days later, the Order received word of a Sith cave near the Temple on Ashas. All available Jedi Masters and Knights deployed to locate and destroy whatever presence was in it. Inside, a Sith Lord calling herself Vynn sat waiting. Combat broke out. During the fight, Kenobi found himself facing a dark Force projection of himself and was pulled into battle with it. He won, but Vynn had already disappeared.

One month later, Kenobi led a force including Yoda, Quinlan Vos, and a group of Sentinels back to the evacuated Temple on Ashas to reclaim it. The temple appeared empty on first appearance, however it was not. A gathering of Sith Acolytes occupied the former High Council chamber. As Kenobi entered first and attempted to question them, Quinlan struck before negotiations could even begin. The Jedi overpowered the acolytes and sealed the temple with a barrier of light.

Months later, Jorus brought the Order to Coruscant to pursue Vynn, who intelligence suggested was hiding there. Instead of finding her, they found a Sith shrine built through a pool of blood. The shrine radiated a dark aura and could disintegrate any non-Force-sensitive who entered its radius. The screaming of tortured souls echoed from its core.

A week later, Grand Master Kenobi led the full Order against the shrine with the intent of ending Vynn permanently. After surrounding and investigating the structure, Vynn revealed herself. The battle was brutal and required the participation of the entire Order. It ended in a Jedi victory.

The Siege of Carida

When the Confederacy of Independent Systems launched a full-scale invasion of Carida, a strategically vital Republic world, the Republic responded immediately. Clone forces already stationed on the planet held the initial assault while a Venator-class Star Destroyer defended the atmosphere. The Venator was destroyed in the fighting, allowing the CIS to land, occupy the planet, and establish a blockade cutting off all entry and exit.

After weeks of sustained combat and the confirmed presence of a Sith assassin on the ground, Grand Master Yoda issued an executive order mobilizing the entire Jedi Order. An elite Jedi detachment would deploy alongside Republic Special Forces to break the Separatist hold on Carida. Obi-Wan Kenobi led the ground assault. Marshal Commander Sand led the space campaign above.

As the ground team finalized their offensive plan to neutralize the Sith assassin, word came that she was already moving toward them. Kenobi acted immediately, breaking from the group and intercepting her star fighter as it entered the Republic Venator Invictus. He confronted her in the hangar bay and fought her off while simultaneously holding back waves of B2 Super Battle Droids.

The Invictus had already been evacuated and multiple Separatist Munificent-class frigates were closing on its position. Obi-Wan returned to his own ship, the Concordia. Shortly after, reports came in that the assassin had found Jedi Master Mace Windu aboard the Invictus, who had remained on the bridge alone. Before Kenobi could respond, Windu was already down, his arm severed in the fight.

With the blockade collapsing and the window open, Kenobi led the Jedi Assault Team to the surface aboard a LAAT/s gunship. The remaining Separatist ground forces fell quickly. Carida was liberated. The environmental damage was severe, and the battle's scale sent shockwaves through the Republic. It was declared the opening engagement of the Clone Wars.

Reform of the High Council

The Siege of Carida made the dysfunction of the Jedi High Council impossible to ignore. Kenobi and Grand Master Yoda had both seen it clearly, and on Tython following the battle they confronted it directly. Kenobi stopped waiting for change and started building it, speaking openly with the Jedi he had served alongside, rallying those who had reached the same conclusion. The pressure worked. Five of the seven sitting High Councilors stepped down.

With only Kenobi and Yoda remaining, Kenobi was elevated to Master of the Order. Shortly after, Yoda departed on a personal journey, leaving the Order behind. Kenobi earned the title of Grand Master through seniority.

He used the position immediately. Five individuals who had supported him throughout his time on the council and had long advocated for reform were personally selected to fill the new council. The composition of the Jedi High Council changed fundamentally under his leadership.
