Balmorra
Overview
Balmorra, due to it's richness in iron and other minerals, became one of the greatest industrial hubs, also known as factory worlds, during the Republic era. It's surface is covered in industrial wastelands, creating one of the worst atmospheres in the Slice, a region which spans from the edge of the Core Worlds out to the Outer Rim Territories. It is located in Sector 26 in the Balmorra system and is closest to Dantooine and Taris despite being in separate sectors. It's capital is Bin Prime but it's not a location that can be deployed on; the two accessible spawns are Balmorra: Broken Valley and Balmorra: Markaran Plains.
Balmorra's landscape is complex. Pre-industrialization, it was described as having expansive grasslands, large rolling hills, and rocky cliffs with herds of herbivorous bormus roaming the plains. However, once it's iron and mineral deposits were discovered, it was quickly turned into one of the largest and most advanced factory worlds the galaxy had to offer. Balmorra primarily manufactured weapons and gained most of it's economic profit from weapon exports but they also manufactured battle droids, ships, and ground vehicles. This industrialization also contaminated it's atmosphere, driving animals like the bormu to the brink of extinction. Due to it's isolation in Sector 26, it's not point of interest for the Confederacy and remains undisturbed underneath Republic rule, offering a +30 Industrial Output for the military.
Society & Culture
Due to Balmorra's industrial prowess, individuals with mechanics, weaponry design, and general industrial skills were heavily respected. These workers acted as the backbone for the entire economy, ensuring consistent exports and high-quality designs. During the Republic era, they were particularly renowned for their exports of weaponry, land vehicles, and ships. Their society was heavily influenced by military rule, industrial pride, and self-resilience. Working difficult and long days was typical for a citizen, which in turn created a strong and self-reliant population.
History and industrial culture plays a large part in societal norms and thinking. During the Old Republic era, Balmorra constantly resisted Sith Empire occupation often manufacturing their own weapons and utilities to drive them away. Their resistance supported a self-confident and brotherly cultural identity which still shows today in the fact that most citizens take pride in their extensive industrialization.
The population of Balmorra is unknown but it's estimated to be in the billions due to it's urban and industrial centers. The largest species inhabiting the planet is Humans but also had numerous Twi'lek, Zabrak, Rodian, and Devarorian citizens. The primary language was Galactic Base Standard but smaller ethnic groups often spoke native Balmorran language or dialect, but it's not well-defined. The economy is uneven with most citizens having stable wages with a wealthy minority.
Government
There is no consistent government system across the vast planet, with most civilians being governed by local and independent administration. It usually functioned as a technocratic-industrial government with decisions based on production needs with highly skilled engineers, managers, and logistic experts holding the most political influence.
Although, most were governed by splinter civil governments, the largest corporate industries held the most political power planet-wide. Large industrial firms controlled contracts and factories which directly affected the economy and therefore the citizens. Because of this power, they could easily adjust labor and production laws, creating a system where government and industry are practically the same. But due to the resilient and independent culture, this political power is not exploited.
