Confederacy of Independent Systems
About
The Confederacy of Independent Systems, commonly referred to as the CIS or the Separatists, is a coalition of star systems, corporations, and political factions that have broken away from the Galactic Republic. Formed out of growing dissatisfaction with corruption, inefficiency, and centralization within the Republic, the CIS presents itself as an alternative system built on independence and self-determination.
Headquartered on Geonosis, the Confederacy operates through a parliamentary structure, though its true power lies in the alliance between political leadership and major corporate entities. These organizations provide not only economic support, but also the industrial and technological backbone required to sustain the Confederacy’s war effort.
Unlike the Republic, the CIS does not rely on organic armies as its primary force. Instead, it fields vast numbers of battle droids, allowing for scalable, efficient, and expendable military operations across multiple fronts simultaneously.
Origins
The rise of the CIS is rooted in long-standing fractures within the Galactic Republic. Outer Rim and Mid Rim systems increasingly viewed the Senate as disconnected from their needs, dominated by Core World interests and corporate influence.
Economic exploitation, lack of representation, and delayed responses to regional crises fueled resentment. Over time, these tensions evolved into organized political movements advocating for autonomy.
Count Dooku emerged as the central figure of this movement, unifying various dissatisfied systems and corporate powers under a single banner. His leadership transformed scattered dissent into a structured and coordinated secession.
Political Structure
The CIS operates under a confederate system where member worlds retain a degree of autonomy while contributing to a shared political and military framework.
The Separatist Parliament serves as the official governing body, representing the interests of its member systems. However, corporate alliances play a decisive role in shaping policy, often influencing decisions through economic leverage and resource control.
This dual structure creates a balance between ideological independence and practical dependence on industrial power.
Military Doctrine
The Confederacy’s military is defined by scale, efficiency, and adaptability. Its reliance on droid armies allows for continuous deployment without the logistical limitations associated with organic forces.
Key elements of CIS military doctrine include:
- Mass Deployment: Large-scale droid forces overwhelm enemy positions through numbers
- Attrition Warfare: Sustained pressure designed to exhaust Republic forces over time
- Experimental Warfare: Integration of advanced technologies, environmental manipulation, and unconventional tactics
- Logistical Superiority: Strong industrial backing ensures constant production and reinforcement
Command structures vary, ranging from traditional military leaders to specialized figures such as engineers, tacticians, and scientific directors who treat warfare as a system to be optimized rather than simply fought.
Internal Dynamics
Despite its unified appearance, the CIS is not without internal tension. Political leaders, corporate executives, and military commanders often operate with different priorities.
While some view the Confederacy as a genuine movement for independence, others see it as an opportunity to expand influence, test new technologies, or reshape galactic power structures.
This creates a system that is both flexible and unstable, capable of rapid innovation but vulnerable to internal conflict and competing agendas.
The CIS Currently
At present, the Confederacy stands as the primary opposition to the Galactic Republic. Its expansion across the Outer and Mid Rim has shifted the balance of power, forcing the Republic into a defensive and reactive position.
Through a combination of political pressure, military action, and strategic destabilization, the CIS continues to challenge the Republic’s authority.
To its supporters, it represents freedom from a failing system. To its enemies, it is a fragmented coalition held together by ambition, power, and war.
