In the year 13 VE, reports of blue-haired figures run rampant in Iwagakure. The shinobi of the village decide to follow up on these reports and investigate the matter. They come across a girl named Kari and other blue-haired figures, all who are extremely ill. The Iwagakure medical division responds to their injuries, but are only able to save Kari. After further investigation, they find out that their illnesses were connected to some kind of “chakra sickness” as Kari explains. She also explains that there are more like her in a distant small village.

Iwagakure shinobi suit up to investigate a small village within their land. During their search, they come across a village that is home to the bloodline of Kari's family. However, the blue-haired people there seem suspicious. One Iwagakure shinobi asks about the situation in the village, but he is suddenly attacked. A large fight breaks out, but the shinobi of Iwagakure overpower the blue-haired people. As the shinobi dwindle their numbers down to one remaining person, the figure drops to his knees in weakness. The Iwagakure shinobi surround him to find his eyes full of confusion and fear. He explains to the shinobi that he is also ill with some kind of “chakra sickness,” and that the actions he made were not at his own will. Confused, the Iwagakure shinobi deduce that it is some kind of genjutsu. But, while they were connecting these assumptions, strange things happen with the blue-haired man, and he explodes.

The Iwagakure Medical Division continue to tend to Kari's illness when they are suddenly attacked. A large group of men clad in red robes enters in the village's gates, killing citizens and shinobi alike. Kari calls them the Chikara, an Uzumaki extremist group that plans to eradicate her bloodline, a side branch of the Uzumaki. Despite suffering major losses, the shinobi successfully defeat the Chikara, who are responsible for placing the genjutsu on all of Kari's bloodline. For their efforts, Kari gives one shinobi, A. Uzumaki, an amulet that has been passed down in their generation. Kari calls it The Heirloom, a powerful amulet that gives an Uzumaki user powerful abilities.
