Dantooine

Overview

Dantooine is a frontier planet in the far fringes of Republic Space- occupying the Outer Rim. Connected to Carida, Dantooine serves as a breadbasket of the galaxy. Due to its isolated and frontier nature, most of Dantooine’s population are farmers, ranchers, and nomads. 

From orbit, Dantooine appears as a sand-brown orb dotted in white clouds with lavender skies; its surface is composed of vast open fields, sparse jungles, and large lakes. Urban centers are non-existent and small farms and plantations exist throughout the surface.

Little is known of the history of Dantooine, the only evidence of previously being settled is an Ancient Jedi Temple known as  The Citadel of the Second Sun.  This temple has recently been reclaimed by the Jedi Order of the Republic.

In 980 RSY, Dantooine suffered a senatorial crisis- with Senator Sanna Nalle, the Governor of Garang Marcellus Kolvek, and the primary aide to the Senator Damaris Solvek all mass resigning- disappearing off-world. This sudden vacuum of leadership caused a near-collapse of the Frontier Administration and has sown distrust in the local farmers with the Core-based Republic. This radical movement was slightly quelled following the special election of Senator Tassian sol'Ansek in 981 RSY, though mumbles of unrest still echo throughout the planet.

Society and Culture

Dantooine produces much of the Republic’s foodstuffs. Dantooine specifically contributes over 40% of edible resources to the Southern Sectors. With a large portion of that diverted to the nearby system of Kamino and its moon Korasa. This is due to the large and growing Clone Army of the Republic, a fact that many Dantarans feel takes away from the prosperity of the planet.

Previously, Dantooine was known as a strong Jedi Enclave and previously housed the location of the Reformed Jedi Council in the Citadel of the Second Sun. The Jedi Council called the Citadel their home until 3000 years before the Ruusan Reformation, during the Third Galactic War. During then, Dantooine was subjected to occupation by the Sith Empire, who executed all local leaders planet-wide.

Government

Dantooine’s government operates under a decentralized Frontier Administration- a sort of collection of localities with a few thousand constituents being represented by Governors with no planet-wide leadership. Due to the existence of the nomadic peoples- there is no official urban law enforcement, but rather a collection of different Frontier Sheriff and Marshall departments that uphold peace and order in the vast grassy fields. The planet’s sole public space port, Garang, is seen as the capital of the planet.

Inside Garang, resides the senator’s residence. A modest accommodation compared to the sky-piercing buildings of Coruscant. Dantooine’s current representative is Senator Tassian Sol'Ansek. Recently elected in a snap election following the power vacuum left by the disappearance of Senator Sanna Nalle and their administration, Senator Tassian Sol'Ansek was previously the Governor of Korasa, and has made the move to make the Dantooine their home.
