Tatooine

Overview

Tatooine was one of the most politically neglected world of the Outer Rim territories, becoming an aired and lawless land. It's defined by it's harsh desert climate, rocky canyons, and never ending dunes. Civilians on the planet survived through moisture farms, which drew water from the atmosphere. Tatooine is not strategically located and does not provide a high material output, leaving Tatooine as a smuggler haven and primary home of the Hutt Cartel. It is located in Sector 5 and has no documented production output.

Tatooine is best described as a dry, desert landscape with various rocky peaks. There isn't enough surface water to sustain the population, forcing civilians to gather water from the atmosphere through moisture farms. Despite the hot and dry landscape, creatures such as the Jawas, Krayt dragons, Banthas, Massiffs, Womp rats, and many other species persevered. All animals have evolved to live in the harsh climate, with many possessing hard skin or hair to protect from the twin suns. The human population is isolated and governed locally. This lack of central political system and neglect from the Confederacy and Republic created a perfect environment for smuggler groups to prosper, most specifically the Hutt Cartel who uses the planet as a trade hub. 

Society & Culture

The majority of the population lived as moisture farmers, traders, smugglers, or laborers. Society was heavily influenced by criminals, bounty hunters, and local gangs. These groups, along with the Cartel, held all of the authority on the planet. The Hutt Cartel in particular controlled most of the economic power on the planet and often subjected the Tatooine population to forced labor. This difficult upbringing forced distrust in the local population, with many successful citizens being serial liars, smugglers, or barterers. 

Humans formed the majority of the sentient population, with Jawas, Tusken Raiders, and other Outer Rim migrants making up a smaller percentage. But despite the brutal environment, Tatooine created a strong frontier identity with all citizens valuing independence, adaptability, and resilience. 

Government

Tatooine does not have an official central government. All power was held by the Hutt Cartel who rules through intimidation and economic power rather than legislation or diplomacy. Very few villages are independent, with the majority being ruled by Hutt Cartel Crime lords or other proxies. 

Despite being located in a Republic-aligned section, the Republic holds practically no authority over the planet. Due to it's low production output and strategically insignificant location, diplomatic relations have not occurred on the planet. The Confederacy, similarly, does not have immediate interest in the planet.
