Jorus C’baoth
Overview
Jorus C’baoth is a Jedi Master from the Planet Bortras and specifically, the capital city of Reithcas. C’baoth always had a strong proficiencyof the force, eventually garnering the attention of the Jedi Order. C’baoth was claimed from his birth parents and brought to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. C’baoth joined the Jedi Service Corp as an Initiate rather than be trained by a Master and quickly became one of its top scholars. At 17, C’baoth began Jedi studies at Mirnic University. After graduating, he attended the Kamparas Jedi Training Center, where he became knowledgeable in philosophy, history, political science, and anthropology. He later continued his training as a private student.
C’baoth eventually joined the ranks of the Jedi Knights and followed down the path of the Jedi Consular. Choosing the art of diplomacy rather than combat, becoming a championing supporter of the Galactic Republic. C’baoth served the Republic as a negotiator and diplomat, particularly in cases of Speciesism, being a member of various Demilitarization Observation Groups and assisting in lobbying for interspecies rights. C’baoth created a strong connection with a variety of Republic Senators throughout his career as a Knight, even being assigned as an Advisor to a Senator on Jedi-related matters. Within this office, C’baoth engaged in discussions with the Extragalactic Society, an association of scientists and officials dedicated to exploring the existence of life beyond the Galaxy. During this period, C’baoth 2 began experiencing visions indicating a growing influence of the dark side. Guided by these premonitions, he confronted a group of Dark Jedi operating in the Elrood sector. Supported by a select team of Jedi Knights, C’baoth succeeded in defeating the Dark Force-Users. Following this accomplishment, he conferred upon himself the title of Jedi Master, which was subsequently endorsed by the Jedi High Council.
C’baoth early on in his Mastery was a harsh critic of the Republic’s failure to respond to the growing militarization of the Free Trade Zones, particularly the creation of Droid Fleets and Armies by the Trade Federation. In his time as a Master, C’baoth was an active member of the Jedi Diplomatic Corp, being involved on a variety of Advisory Committees including the Senate Interspecies Advisroy Committee. Being involved in some manner in negotiations in Aldeeran during their dynastic crisis. C’baoth rarely accepted Padawans and exercised meticulous care in selecting candidates. While participating in negotiations on Mandalore, C’baoth identified Force sensitivity in a young Mandalorian noblewoman named Seline Viszla, a member of Mandalore’s ruling clan. Recognizing her potential, Jorus placed Seline under the care of the Jedi Order, believing her abilities would not be fully realized within Mandalorian society. He also considered that this decision might spare her from a life of restriction imposed by her aunt, Kyu Viszla.
Early Life
C’baoth frequently clashed with the Jedi High Council, particularly in the leading days to the Clone Wars. Since the onset of the Separatist crisis, Jorus frequently petitioned both the Jedi and the Senate to take a more proactive stance to the growing crisis. Believing that complacency is precisely why the Republic stands at a crossroads. Following the Raxus address, this rhetoric from C’baoth had only been exemplified. C’baoth had also become growingly concerned with the Anti-Jedi rhetoric in the Galactic Senate, something that would be exemplified during a Senate hearing. C’baoth here had accompanied the Senator of Dantooine Hito prior to her retirement. In this session, Master Jorus had a public bout of words with the Senator of Aldeeran Tyrion. The two had come into disagreement over the role of the Jedi, which Master C’baoth argued had been too little and thus the crisis had escalated, the Senator of Aldeeran disagreed strongly.
This confrontation subsided but left a strong impression upon the Jedi Diplomat. After the meeting, Master C’baoth submitted strategic proposals to the Jedi High Council, which were mostly ignored. This led to a dispute at the Jedi Temple at Ashas with Masters Fisto and Plo Koon about the Order's direction. Frustrated by waiting two hours, C’baoth insisted the Jedi must proactively support the Republic and neutral worlds for an imminent major conflict. However, the Order's focus shifted to investigating Darth Vynn, and Master Mace Windu recalled C’baoth from his role as Jedi Ambassador.
Master C’baoth was enraged with the Jedi’s decision to recall him from his diplomatic post but did not cease in his petitions. A second petition was issued following a meeting with Senator Hito from Dantooine, and he had received an audience of the wider Jedi High Council including Master Windu, Master Sicarius, Master Kenobi & Fisto and Master Plo Koon. This meeting was short, a 5-minute dismissal of his recommendations and a suggestion for him to cease in his requests, and that the Jedi Order would watch the situation carefully. C’baoth was livid following this decision and retreated to his quarters on Coruscant. He concluded that the Council no longer aligned with the intentions of the Force, prompting him to examine his research extensively. He reviewed the notes from his time at the Jedi Training Service and revisited his thesis on the 'Morality and Path of the Ashla,' ultimately falling asleep during his thorough study. In his sleep, he received an almost prophetic dream. In this dream, he argued with himself, at least what he believed was himself, a spectral light figure in his image.
The Ashla’s Lost Servant
The confrontation was direct, C’baoth had approached the Sith shrine with his Padawan and the Jedi Knight to end it. Once he arrived it spoke to him, even attempted to court him to his side. It felt his dissatisfaction but believed he was weak enough to fall for its lies. His padawan and the knight were not so strong willed and fell to its temptations, something he found unacceptable. The Dark spectre incapacitated him as he rebuked it, throwing him to the corner. But C’baoth was not gone but instead thrown into a wild rage. The Jedi here was pitiful, weak minded, and shallow. The Ashla spoke to him here, ‘destroy it,’ ‘wage a war of light against it.’ C’baoth threw away his lightsaber so he could muster a storm of good. As he arose, he approached the slab, the spheres and his weak underlings, and with his hands grew a storm of purple, blue, and his will and anger, balling into a cloud of blinding twisted light.
He hurled it at the Spectre and at the spheres around it, destroying them. Then he turned his attention to his apprentice and knight, both he grabbed and raised with the force. Calling them weak, pitiful, disgraces, forcing them to bend the knee to him. He saw their crimson blades and ordered them to desecrate this shrine to prove to the Ashla that they did not accept the lies and tricks of the Bogan. After the spectre appeared, it lingered. C’baoth confronted it and was incapacitated, along with his Padawan and Jedi Knight Volhaar. In sleep, Ashla praised him for courage and devotion. Without C’baoth realizing it, the more he listened to this Ashla, the further he strayed from the true essence of the Light and the genuine voice of the Ashla. His thoughts slowly changed, which distorted his sense of reality. The slide into madness and darkness often happens gradually and without warning.
C’baoth spent at least a week drifting in space, his memory unclear after leaving Coruscant with his padawans. His ship leaked fuel and couldn’t fly, but he managed to signal a passing junk ship for help. Forced to sell his shuttle, C’baoth bought a basic ship with minimal features that ultimately crashed on Dantooine. When he returned, Master Secura was surprised to see him, but his arrival drew little attention, and Master Kenobi quickly lost interest in C’baoth’s story, which seemed suspiciously convenient. When he returned, he was informed a message was left in scripted on Dantooine, targeted towards him. And a call was made to his holocommunicator which he declined as he did not know who it was from. However, the message was clear to understand; his Padawan and Knight Volhaar were alive, and they could not meet. Not at the least for quite some time…
The Chief Ambassador
In war, words hold more power than any Star Destroyer or Clone Legion. Only Jedi are experts in this kind of warfare.
In the weeks after his arrival, it was business as usual for the Master. He was called to service once again as a Jedi Ambassador, serving on the Council of First Knowledge and taking his role as Chief Ambassador of the Jedi Order. Here, C’baoth had begun to expand the portfolio of the COFK and begin the foundations to create the Jedi Diplomatic Corp. He began pushing for a stronger diplomatic role for the Jedi, but was limited in scope by the High Council, who decreed the Jedi must remain neutral, especially within the Republic. To his displeasure, C’baoth had to accept this as a fact but continued to plan around it. Meeting with several Senators particularly in the Diplomatic and Foreign Relations Committee. Volhaar were alive, and they could not meet. Not at the least for quite some time.
During this period, C’baoth was approached by his Padawan regarding the pursuit of Vynn, which could more accurately be described as an attempt to evade Vynn. The strategy involved drawing the Dark Lord to a specific world in order to entrap them. C’baoth gave little consideration to this proposal, as the Ashla advised him to disregard his Padawan’s request. He declined to participate in what he viewed as a misguided endeavor. Instead, C’baoth concentrated on what he considered the primary concern: the Republic. The Senate had undermined its credibility with the incident involving the Venator, and the negotiations failed due to insufficient expertise. At present, C’baoth believed only he possessed the intellectual capacity and skill within the Order to effectively engage with the Separatist representatives, attributing ongoing challenges to general incompetence. But this incompetence led them to the current situation, where war was inevitable. The Senate sent an ultimatum he viewed as punitive and stupid to any long-term diplomatic envoys. It made them look like the aggressor, but it was unavoidable. The most serious incident involved the Senator from Kamino, who reacted negatively when the Chancellor was granted Emergency powers. The Senator left in protest over procedural concerns, making it seem as though the unstable Republic might collapse entirely. Acting swiftly as Chief Ambassador, C’baoth approached the Senator to encourage negotiations. However, this effort proved unnecessary, as the Chancellor’s actions had already resolved the situation.
Following the diplomatic incident, it became more and more apparent there was a diplomatic failure in the Republic. First C’baoth expanded the Diplomatic Corp to incorporate new Interns and an additioanl Ambassador. He was given full reign over the Ambassadors, and this would become his little Kingdom, his little Order. It was here C’baoth began to be consulted by the Ashla that it was necessary to create a Shining City on a Hill in this galaxy of darkness and chaos. His visions only exaggerated, became more overt, on what was the necessary path. And in his bliss, he was called back to reality as he was reminded again of his Padawan. It was like a nuisance, but one he could not ignore.
